HONY

Something that really sparked my interest is a blog called Humans of New York. A man named Brandon goes around New York City and takes portraits of people, often including a story or detail about that persons life in the caption. It's so intriguing to read about these humans, with so much diversity and culture within them. I'm actually looking at a college in New York right now and will be visiting this spring break. Reading HONY and seeing how different it is from Hawaii makes me kind of excited. When you have a chance, scroll through the faces of the people who live in New York City. There is so much beauty in the simplicity of these photographs. Enjoy.

My Dream

If you know me well enough, you probably know what my dream is. To start my own cafe. My English teacher told me last year that if you put your dreams and goals out there in the universe, they are bound to come true. For a while, I've thought about running my own business. I see myself doing this because well... I love food and I love people! Today my teammate, Tiff (we call her T-chang) and I went to Fresh Cafe, a cute little place that makes sandwiches, soups, salads, etc...common foods that you can find in a cafe. This cafe gave off the greatest vibes and really made me realize how much I wanted to pursue this. When I envision this dream of mine, I see a huge chalkboard behind the counter with every entree on the menu. I envision an open mic on Friday nights with local artists jamming on their guitar and college students working busily on their laptops trying to finish an essay that is due. I envision coworkers laughing over their cups of hazelnut lattes after a long day in the office. I envision smiling customers after they take a bite of a chicken pesto sandwich and Norah Jones pandora station playing in the background. People think i'm crazy when I tell them this dream of mine. Maybe I am crazy to be thinking so deeply into the future. But hey, we all have dreams don't we.

Daily thought

Something that really gets to me is when I go out of my way for someone and they don't even have the decency to say thank you or show appreciation for what i've done for them. I know when you give something you shouldn't expect anything in return, but a simple thank you is all that I ask for. Everyday I try to do an "act of kindness" towards a lucky human being because it makes me feel good about myself. Life is so so stressful and sometimes, it just takes a simple compliment or smile to brighten someones day. Hopefully if you read this, you'll consider doing a daily act of kindness too. Or if someone goes out of their way to do something for you, I encourage you to make a conscious effort to say a simple thank you. I feel like a mom blogging. Goodnight world.

Love

I've had this blog since October but have yet to write about my boyfriend whom i've been with for quite some time now. So readers of my blog here it is, I am madly and hopelessly in love with this boy. He was my best friend in 7th grade and I would've never thought that we'd end up like this, but we did... And I have never been happier. It's one of those relationships where you can be corky and weird and you don't have to try to impress them. I think falling in love with my best friend was the greatest risk I've ever taken. Having that chemistry, and being your true self around someone is important. I know people think that it's crazy for two teenagers to be in love but maybe just maybe they they're too old to remember what it's like. This has been a sappiest post ever, but it honestly is the greatest feeling to be able to give and receive love. I am so lucky.
